Friday Night Fights – Fisher vs. Sampieri Fight Card Preview

FisherWe are a few days away from December 13th – a hectic day for New York city muay thai with Take On putting on a show in Queens and Friday Night Fights putting on a show in Chelsea. This is not the official fight card, so I may be leaving out a few matches.

FNF 12/13 is headlined by Aaron “The Ghost” Fisher,  co-owner and instructor of Kings Thai Boxing, and Joseph Sampieri of Renzo Gracie NYC. The Ghost was last in the ring in May, where he defeated Harris Norwood convincingly by judges decision after a 4-year layoff. Meanwhile, Joe Sampieri fought James Martinez in August of this year and finished the fight in the 2nd round by TKO – showing excellent head kicks and elbows. Tough to call this one – who will be the king of New York? My money is on Aaron – out-striking his opponent from the outside as well as winning the clinch game.

Also on the pro card, Chris Kwiatkowski vs. Omar Vega and Chris Mauceri vs. Turan Hasanov. The Polish Punisher has been less active this year, but he will bring a wealth of experience to Friday’s fight, including matches against Kevin Ross and Jose Palacios. Turan Hasanov is a last-minute replacement for Deshawn Robinson, who was supposed to face Chris Mauceri. Nevertheless, Turan has wins against Villi Bello and Justin Greskiewicz on his resume (though JG won the series 2-1), so the fight has not lost any appeal. Hasanov, like Robinson, is a puncher, so Mauceri should not have to tweak his game plan too drastically.

For the ammys, I would keep an eye out for Tapia vs. Guzman, Zawistowski vs. Yohn, and Brandenburg vs. Slavin. Chris Tapa looked possessed against Jon Nace – scoring three knockdowns before the fight was called. Pawel’s hands are heavy and made quick work of Jeff Charles at June’s Take On.
